This project was created for Messiah Lutheran Church in Springfield MO.

All components are made of red oak. The dowel used for the pole was purchased commercially, cut in two and fitted with brass cane connectors purchased at Lee Valley Tools.

The cross was  constructed using rabbet joints and glued together. A 2" tenon was left on the bottom of the cross and later this tenon was inserted into the mortice on top of the carved section of pole.

Deft lacquer spray was used to protect the wood from the effects of handling and to bring out the color of the wood. This product is exceptionally easy to use, and produces a wonderful effect.
