This carving was rendered in 2" thick Cherry wood and is 19" x 22.5". It was for a family in Quebec, Canada. The carving is an updated rendering of an old biblical theme based on Revelations 3:20, and depicts Jesus standing at the heart's door, knocking. On the rear of the carving is the explanation for the knocking: "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name... John 1:12". This is to indicate the purpose of Jesus knocking... that we might open our hearts to Him and become "children of God".
The carving began with a photo session with a young friend named Peter D. who agreed to pose as Jesus knocking at the door. This particular fellow indeed looked like traditional North American illustrations of Jesus, so much so that friends, even his own family remarked "How did you find someone who looked like Jesus?"
It was interesting to discover that Peter's own parents did not initially recognize their son in the drawings I prepared for the pattern. It was not until I pointed out to them that their son was the model for "Jesus" that they recognized Peter in the drawings.
