The wheat and vine motifs recall two of Jesus' seven "I AM" statements, recorded in John's Gospel: "I am the bread of life" and "I am the true vine" These words are also carved vertically onto the pole, on top of a stamped background.
The empty cross speaks to Jesus' triumph over sin, death and the power of the devil.
A segmented pole joined with a brass cane fitting allows this processional cross to be stored and transported more easily.
The flared arms of the cross match the style of the altar cross. The wheat and vine motifs match the same motifs carved onto the altar and paschal candle stands.
The cross and pole are connected by a mortise-and-tenon joint.
